  We all have things in life that we want to change – be it losing weight, being more active, breaking free from an unhappy relationship, changing career paths, or spending more time with friends…but, often, it can be difficult to make them a reality.

The Balance Circle below provides you with the opportunity to rate how satisfied you are with some of the elements that make up you and your life.

 

Balance circle

Use the balance circle to determine your present state. On the scales of 1 to 10 circle the number that best represents how satisfied you are with each area of your life. The lower the number the less satisfied you are. Don’t take too much time to think; this will be a window into your perceptions today. Once complete join up the dots.

What does the circle tell you? Do you have a lot of peaks and troughs, or is it fairly balanced? On a separate sheet pick the two or three areas you have rated the highest and write yourself a brief description of these.

Next, pick the two or three that you have rated the lowest and again, write yourself a brief description of these.

Why and how have you achieved more satisfaction in some areas of your life than others? What is it about these aspects of your life that you are most satisfied with?

The vital task is to improve your rating on all those areas you have rated at less than 10. The aim is to identify the area of your life you would most like to improve and as you read on ask yourself what you need to do. What changes do you want to make? What changes do you need to make?

  Of course, ‘knowing’ that you want to change is just the beginning of the task.



Too often we’re busy just dealing with whatever comes our way. Without having a clear idea of what it is exactly that we do want, and how we’re going to get there, it can be hard to make that change happen. Improving the ratings on your circle means living differently.

And this is where having your own personal Mentor, someone who can help you explore your own rebalancing process, your own process of change is so important.

One definition of insanity is “continuing the same behaviour and expecting a different result”. If you continue to adopt the same response tomorrow will be the same as today.
